Today we spoke to Dan Murray-Serter co-founder of Dawn
Dawn, founded by Dan in 2018, and creates products that help people optimise their brains through nutrition and information.
Tell me about the day the idea was born. In my last company I had very bad insomnia and high levels of anxiety. It got so bad that over 5 months I only managed to sleep between midnight to 1:00am every day. It was killing me! I tried EVERYTHING. I exercised regularly, I ate healthily, I meditated, I even got married! Nothing helped.
Somebody bought me a book on brain nutrition, I admit I was dismissive at first, but I was ready to give anything a go. It recommended specific supplements and specific food to change in my diet. Result? After two weeks…I slept like a baby.
I became really fascinated in having a brain-first diet and brain-first approach to life. I decided on starting a newsletter on learning about your brain in a fun and friendly way, this resulted in the creation of Dawn
What was the biggest turning point in the life of Dawn? What we are doing underneath the hood is that we are actually creating direct consumer products that are heavily scientifically researched and the best possible quality you can get in the market.
Therefore, the biggest turning point so far was bringing on board our chief science officer, she’s a world renowned neuro-scientist and has a PhD in neurological pharmacology. Hiring her means that our products are able to have true credibility due being backed scientific research.
Three top tips for aspiring entrepreneurs:
Get a close support network
Practice self-awareness
Stop talking and learn to listen
What gets you out of bed every morning? My cats! Well it depends, you see sometimes they keep me in bed every morning too. So, I guess it depends what mood they are in.
What did you want to be when you were little? I actually always wanted to be a screenwriter.
Favourite Disney character: Considering how much I like cats; it has to be Simba (Lion King)
What is Dawn planning for the world next? We are launching our products in January 2020 and we have got an invite-only launch for customers starting in October.
