Who are we?
The Entrepreneur Society at Newcastle University is one of the longest running societies within the institution. A committee of five will be responsible for the performance in the coming year, comprising of three nationalities and four different disciplines of study.
Collectively, we were elected based on our experience within the start-up world, whether that be in the role of Intern, Consultant or Founder. It is our experience that we hope can help to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs. We are knowledgeable about the world of entrepreneurship, but it is ultimately a combination of passion and curiosity that will take the society to new levels in the upcoming year.
The focus for the year is the belief that entrepreneurship coupled with innovation can make the world a better place by turning forward-thinking concepts into reality.
What do we do?
The society boasts links to the UN HULT Prize Competition, where $1 million is up for grabs to fund viable solutions to the world’s biggest problems. This competition will be hosted in Newcastle as part of the ‘On-Campus’ stage of the prize. It will have fifteen teams mentored from September through to December, and one will emerge as the winner of the stage. It will then be fast-tracked through to the ‘Regional Finals’ in London.
It is the role of our committee to inspire, educate and connect these future entrepreneurs, searching out potential and nurturing it, so that the university can put forward the highest calibre of entrepreneurs to represent them on the international stage.
To reach the highest potential, we will aim to teach lessons of entrepreneurship through open discussions in networking sessions, as well as learning from the best; through keynote speeches from high-flying entrepreneurs and founders, having previously hosted speakers such as Richard Branson.
Why are we here to write?
As a writing team, we will be focusing on the world of innovation, as this is the field our expertise currently lies in. We’ll be bringing you weekly articles on the most exciting innovations, their stage of development, as well as how they will be commercialized in the future.
